When in doubt, proportion it out!

For 7th graders, no other concept gets as much “bang for your buck” as proportions. We have started a list of problems that can be solved with a proportion and it continues to grow each day.
Here is what we have so far:
·         Word problems with three numbers
·         Scale drawings and maps
·         Unit Rates
·         Converting measurements
·         Two equivalent fractions with one number missing
·         Similar figures
·         Shadow problems
·         Percents
·         Taxes, tips, discounts
·         Probability predictions

When in doubt, proportion it out – especially if you have three numbers! Below are some examples of proportion problems we have worked on so far.
